almost there

April 29, 2007 the wife 4 comments

We’re getting down to crunch time now. The drywall was hung in just one day, but the finishing is a week long process. They said they would be done this afternoon, so we can start priming and painting then. It’s finally my turn on the house!

The hubby has been wonderful in allowing me to choose decor as I see fit. On the flipside, I try to be considerate and think about what he would like as well. My duck bathroom is the only exception. I will have ducks!

We bought our fridge and dishwasher (coming Tuesday… yay!), along with bifold mirror doors for the master closet and a new storm door for the front. We got about $500 off our fridge because it has a dent in the side – a dent that will never be seen because that side is up against a wall. Our dishwasher has an eco-wash cycle, which is a seemingly insignificant little detail that just makes me happy as a lark. Speaking of things that make me happy: method has gotten into the personal care business.

Ah. Soon I will have a house and Madame Prowls-a-Lot and Madame Yogurt and Sir Sebastian and a new job… life is good.

House is coming along…and a cool video I found (warning on a bit of language).

Yes, this is my first post in forever. I just wanted talk a bit about how our hose is coming along; drywall finishers are working on it as we speak. I will be marathoning over the next two weeks to finish all my finals, complete the house, graduate and move all our stuff into the house…not necessarily in that order.

Anyhow, here is a really cool video commentary on the cultural impact of Islam in the UK. You might find it thought provoking. Warning: he does use a couple words of profanity, but it is worth it.

Edit: I can’t get it to embed, so here’s a link.

setback #462

Neither of us have posted in forever. Ridiculous.

We don’t have any walls in our house still, even though we have to be out of the apartment by May 4. This has resulted in a mild fit of depression for me in that it bums me the hell out to think I might be homeless in three weeks. My husband, of course, is nonchalant about the whole thing and thinks it will all work out just fine. He might not feel that way in his head, but he acts it. I really wish he would just scream at somebody over the phone because it would make me feel better, even if it had no practical result.

The whole thing is a long and stupid story that ends with me having no faith in the construction business. In this town, those people have the work ethic of a sloth on codeine.

I will likely not be back at work next year. I’ve been offered a salaried office position in the real estate biz, which would be spectacular. I have an office/paperwork temperament – not sure what made me think teaching would be a good idea. I suppose the experience is worth it.

We’re going to a new church here in town. It just started up, so we’re involved in the grassroots stages of it all. Cool stuff. Being local again work-wise will be nice because I will have Clarksville connections and can invite people out. Right now we’re meeting in a vacant house that is serving as the church (which sounds much more cult-ish than it really is), but I’m hoping we’ll be in a commercial building within the next year or so. That’s when the growth will really start, I think.

Okay, I have to return to my wallowing now. Wish me luck, and if you pray, that would be nice, too.
