progress

We made a lot of it today. My dad came up to C-ville and reversed our closets so that the bigger once goes with the master and the little coat closet goes with the office. We also framed in the dining room entryway and leveled the studs that adjoin the dining room to the guest bath so that our drywall won’t remind anyone of a wave pool. Hopefully we can get the drywall guy out sometime this week to give us an estimate.

The last thing Dad did before he left was show us how to cut and hang the insulation, which appears easy but tedious. Hopefully we can have most of that done by the time he and my stepmom come down next Friday to do some more work.

We worked for about 10 hours, minus an hour or so for lunch. I am sufficiently tuckered out.

Supposedly the hubby and I are going to have a “date night” tonight (a date at home, that is; eating lasagna and watching a movie), but we’ll see if that comes to fruition. Right now, all I really want to do is sleep.

Oh, before I forget. Note to self: Sometime early next week, wake your little patooty up somewhat early and GRADE YOUR STUPID PAPERS. I want it all done by Tuesday at the LATEST so that I can finish out this break with nothing hanging over my head, just the sweet feeling of absolutely no responsibility. Hmm. The hubby works Saturday and Sunday night, and he has Carousel and inservice to boot. New plan. Done by SUNDAY at the latest. Mwahahahaha!!!

You see, teaching makes you insane. That’s the only explanation I have.

10. Having no neighbors tangent to my walls or floor
9. Storage space
8. Not having to shimmy sideways to get to my side of the bed
7. One word: dishwasher
6. The return of drywall
5. Cooking with gas in a kitchen wider than 2 feet
4. Using my oMop on the hardwood floors
3. Landscaping in the summer
2. Having my own washer and dryer
1. Finally co-existing with my cats again

misdirected antagonism

March 3, 2007 the wife Leave a comment

People should not take their issues out on others. It makes for a crappy day.

Yeah, I don’t have room to speak, because I’m probably the worst person in the world at transferring negative emotion. I acknowledge that. That doesn’t make it okay.

I’m just going to spend the rest of my night studying for my license, cleaning up a little here and there, expending energy because the pressure that’s trapped inside of me right now is simply unbearable. Maybe Shirley and I can watch a movie later on (Shirley, for those who have not had the pleasure of an introduction, is my Pound Puppy… my symbol of stability in an otherwise tumultuous past).

Um. I want to say something not negative to close. Hm. We signed up for the Gevalia Kaffe Club and are getting this really cool 12-cup stainless coffee maker as a bonus gift. I’m a sucker for stuff like that; however, I know that Gevalia is awesome, so there’s safety in this one. Their website got me hooked, though. I sent Grossmommy this Museum Cafes, Arts, and Music set (from the hubby and I) with a “just cause” note. I think she’ll like it.

Test Anxiety

March 2, 2007 the husband 3 comments
I have to take two of the three Praxis tests tomorrow that are required before I can get my teaching license. I am not looking forward to it. The reason: I feel very unprepared. Instead of preparing for these tests over the past few days/weeks, I have been too busy knocking out observation hours, knocking out walls and doing inconsequential and/or impractical school work. I am not saying some of those things are not more important, (I can retake the test, but we have to have a finished home to move into in May), but going into a high-pressure situation unprepared is among my least favorite things to do in the world.

In any case, I did get a helping hand today working on the house; Joe Green, former roommate and close friend, came to blast down some sheetrock and clean up with me. I need to recruit “the guys” more often. We accomplished a lot and had some good talk time too.

the weatherman

March 1, 2007 the wife 1 comment

School was dismissed 2 hours early today due to the threat of severe and possibly tornadic weather. We ended up with a whole lotta nothing.

Okay, so I’m a big fat dork and I read the Nashville weather blog on a daily basis (yes, really, shut up). The blog is cool because it gets into the “whys” of weather events and you get to watch them go through the process of making their predictions. There is also a section where visitors can comment on the various posts.

This is where I get edgy. People write some really nasty, disrespectful stuff on there. Today, for instance: they predicted possible tornadoes and definite thunderstorms, and very little of that came to fruition. So what happens? People start leaving comments telling them what idiots they are and how they always overreact and they’re full of crap and what a waste of time, etc. Um… so to be happy you need one of our local schools to be ripped in half with eight kids dead at the end of the day? Because that’s what it sounds like. Even the NWS said it would be bad, so it’s not just the local folks. Man has no control over the weather, and despite the fact that the lower classes among us think they should, meteorologists do not have a sixth sense. They base their predictions off of scientific models and determine what they think will happen.

Someone let me know when they discover God’s weather hotline.

Sorry. I just don’t like it when people who know nothing think someone else should know everything.
